Countisbury TV Relay Transmitter – Lynton and Lynmouth

Countisbury is the name of a Freeview TV relay transmitter located on Butter Hill, Countisbury, 2 miles east of Lynmouth on the North Devon coast.

It is the most western relay of the West TV region, which originates from the Mendip mast at Priddy, between Cheddar and Wells on the mendip hills in Somerset. The channels provided are the BBC 1 West and ITV West Country (East) region variants. These originate from studios in Bristol and cover the whole of the west (Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire). The countisbury relay retransmits this signal to Lynton, Lynmouth and surrounding areas.

The Countisbury transmitter can be combined with the signal from Wenvoe, the main transmitter in south wales to give all channels such as Dave, Yesterday, Quest etc in order to give the West England News rather than Wales news.

If the South West region news (Plymouth – BBC Spotlight, ITV West Country) is required, then this is only available in Lynton and Lynmouth with a satellite dish, either using a subscription to Sky, or subscription-free through Freesat with a suitable box.
